Who was there? Women with kids (not working), pensioners (not working), people living on state benefits (not working). WHY DO THEY GO IN TO THE POST OFFICE AT LUNCHTIME? HOW THICK ARE THEY? HONESTLY, WHAT SORT OF MORON WHO HAS ALL DAY TO FANNY AROUND DECIDES TO GO TO A POST OFFICE AT LUNCHTIME WHEN THOSE OF US WHO WORK HAVE NO OTHER TIME TO GO THERE ?

Sorry, Tom but you'll need to wait for a few days longer.

You know what, in my country people pretend to sleep! Amazing, isn't it?
I think we're from the same country ;)

Anyway, here's what I want to vent about. What ticks me off the most? I hate it when people make fun of choir members, thinking that joining the choir is a weak activity. And I hate it when people ask me what section I sing in choir and when I say "First soprano", they start making fun of my high voice. So much so that I often wish I have a lower speaking voice so that people will quit making fun of it.

i very much understand your feelin on that. i'm a guy who is nearly 15 and i am still a solid treble. no changing in sight. im lucky to go to a performing arts school in london so, it's usually not a problem around there. everyone is accepting of the way you express your art. and many people there do/have don choir and get it.

the peple makin fun are probably jelous. they wish they could still go high

Unfortunately (and I'm going in to grumpy old man mode here) we seem to be living in an age where where there is complete intolerance of anything that is even slightly outside the realms of 'normal' and the herd mentality is to follow the rush to pick on anybody different.

I posted a YouTube clip on one of the other threads about a little kid (eight I think) getting an Xbox for his birthday and being overwhelmed. He was a great kid, a credit to his parents. Many of the comments were taking the **** and calling him gay :(

The internet is a great thing that can empower and enrich our lives, but only if our minds are open. Syafiqah & aaden - enjoy the gift you have and take pride in what you do. Don't give in to bullies and don't feel the need change to conform to other peoples ideas of what you should be. Hope 2010 brings you both health and happiness.

Perhaps it isn't just the way of the world today though.....

I was from choir in secondary school too.. and I still remember the very first time we went on stage to sing was for a Chinese New Year celebration, and before we even open our mouths to start singing, the immature audience from the front all started laughing for probably like a whole 15 seconds and even as we sang. It gets pretty irritating, and frustrating that we have to endure all that rude laughter and insult all the time we sing on stage. We might not be the best choir out there, but train hard and of course would have appreciated that the audience give us some form of a respect. But that's quite a few years back.. I have since graduated from secondary school.

Syafiqah and Aaden, as long as you guys enjoy singing or being in the choir, no one can stop you from loving it. Aaden, it's great you are in a performing arts school, I think people who have passion in arts are more receptive in performing arts stuff.

Aaden, it's weird what jealous people do huh? I remember some people were unhappy that I was a soloist in a song and tried to get me off by telling the director that my voice was not high enough or something. It's lame but that's what they do :( And it's kinda stupid since I can sing higher than any of them.

and xsakurax, yes I agree with you! People in my school are always laughing whenever we sing and it gets worse when we sing in our choir uniforms. It's horrible. When we got Gold for a competition this year, the teasing lessen a bit but there are always people who try to put us down by saying we suck. I wish people will give this form of music a chance. There's nothing wrong with choral music and I wish they'd shut up already about it being a 'gay' activity (for the guys).

But that being said, I still love singing and I wish to sing for many years to come and just doing what I love :)

I was bullied and teased in school alot for my musical abilities but in the end I won out. I am the one who earned a Letter in music upon graduation and they didn't earn anything. And after high school, I moved on to performing 2nd soprano bugle in a drum & bugle corps and got to tour the east coast of the US several times over.
You who are still performing have my utmost respect.

calling choir gay is absolutely the worst. so ignorant. i think most of the guys have it wrong...in most choirs, don't the girls significantly out number the guys? thas what my older bro says if he's ever hassled about choir. although it rarely happens as he is quite the ladies man. certainly not gay!

I know nothing about any of the lads in Libera and have no interest, but one thing they do not lack is the attention of hoards of young female fans. Certainly, when those boys get older (I hope  ) they will not be lacking in admirers!

One thing I do remember though is that those kids in school that picked on others and were quick to call people gay were usually the ones with doubts and confusion and they were trying to compensate by being overly macho.

Erm, sheesh. I think I have to make this clear. I don't think they mean "gay" as in liking other people of the same gender. They meant gay as in, it's something weak and sissy? Urgh, someone from Singapore help me lol, it's hard to explain. Anyway, I think gay or not, it's horrible to be calling people names just because they're in a choir. I think guys in my choir often gets embarrassed a lot because of this and I hate it. It's just so immature and like I've said before, they should just give choral music a chance.

LOL - I'm with you now  Crazy young people talk that has to change things around just so they don't talk like their parents. What's wrong with the Queens English? Mind you, that would restore the original meaning of gay to being lively and cheerful and jolly so I guess words is always changing in meaning.

Syafiqah, what other slang do you need to warn me about 8)

HAHA, it's funny but Singaporeans learn the British English or rather we speak/write that way like writing "favourite" instead of American's "favorite" or "colour" instead of "color". It must be because we were once a British colony or something so we basically have almost the same education system too (like O levels and A levels).

Well, once, a long time ago, the US was a British colony as well. It is just that we have been a seperate country for so long that our version of English is evolved from the Queen's English. Same with the Canadians version, which is different from ours, England's and Australia's.
With having British friends, I have found my English is reverting to the proper form and I have sort of become the grammer police at work. My work as that is never ending.

Ooh, this thread is interesting... what ticks me off would be:

1. When I'm in a public place and a group of people walk so slow they affect my pace and I can't overtake them because they block the entire path.
2. When people try to act cool by drinking so much alcohol they end up with their faces down the toilet (I so cannot see why they think that's cool)
3. When people text nonstop even when at the company of others.

I can go on...

I think one thing that really makes me mad is tailgaters.
When I drive, I believe in going from point A to point B safely. I could be doing the speed and someone will get right on my bumper, even if they can switch lanes and go around. :x
