Roberts job for BBC will be totally different from what he does with Libera.

Also yet Libera is a charity but there is no way that the staff involved dont make money out of it or EMI does this out of the kindness of there heart.

Just to emphasize on that fact that I though Libera was not a business. well at least not a profiteering business.
No worries. You need to keep in mind that whilst Libera is a charity (and yes, it is also a business), RP isn't. He only has so much leeway when working on SoP.

We'd all like to see more Libera on songs of praise (but that's obvious because we're all part of one of their fans forums). However they are the act who has performed the most on the program since it began, and two performances in less than a month is pretty good going. There isn't many platforms (especially in the UK) that Libera can promote their skills, so it's nice that they are practically signed up as SoP's in house resident choir.

P.S. Keep an eye out for the programs 50th anniversary celebrations in October. I'd be very surprised if their most 'featured' artist doesn't contribute in some way ;)

P.P.S - Nice song for Ben to go out on if it is to be his last solo performance. He just managed to keep a straight and serious face lol

I'm here a bit late. I'm sure all the Brits have gone to bed. Just want to say I really liked reading your play-by-play. Too funny!

Was a really good video. Makes me wish for more. :D

How do you know it's a send off? Or are you just assuming?

The only downside to the video, is that they could have tried to get a shot of the older boys, namely JB, Josh, Liam, Tiarnon, Alex together in the one shot. I know they are singing the lower notes, but it would have been a nice gesture to them. It could possibly be their last ever TV appearance in libera white robes.

They did something like this for the Salva Me SoP flimed in St Bartholemews 2007 when they showed Calum, Connor and Joe SW (what proved to be their last TV outing).

I think they could have utilised that 20+ second stint were not much happened apart from out of focus shot of the boys walking past a sculptured imprint on a wall.

Minor gripe.

Maybe there is still more to come from the other lads, maybe its not just the voice, but upcoming exams and other commitments, would not be so easy for Ben, as he is not so local to St Philip's as the other boys are.

If he is having to spend several hours each week traveling to and from St Philip's, that is valuable study time!

There's more to life than Libera, they have to prepare to enter the big wide world as adults.

He's Siamese, that's pretty common in pre-adolescent boys from Southeast Asia.

Ben's soprano was as strong as ever. Not bad considering his age. Wasn't there someone here awhile ago lamenting that choirboys seemed to be undergoing the change in theri voices earlier these days? Libera seems to have pretty good luck in that respect.

Sorry to disappoint you but it's the CD we've heard on that video, it's not a live recording

Good news: believe it or not, research into the changing voices of adolescent girls and boys tends not to support that idea to any statistically significant extent— luckily for singing kids and those who encourage them! It's more, I believe it's been found, that changes in the way children are educated (both in terms of schooling structure and musically) in recent years tend towards truncating treble careers a bit earlier than even nature would.

Libera, for instance, have a bit of an advantage when compared to organisations like cathedral-affiliated choir schools; Libera don't have an artificial upper limit on the age of their choristers, where choir schools, being essentially prep schools, necessarily bid goodbye to their treble lines at age thirteen, changed voices or not, when the children move on to new schools. So while Libera might provide room for a talented chorister to sing treble parts until fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, or however long his natural voice allows, many other places training boys to sing sort of cut them off at thirteen. Some choristers will continue on to schools equipped to feature trebles until their voices change; others will find themselves in environments where treble voices (or boys' treble voices, specifically) are actively discouraged, be it by peer pressure, by lack of a choral program, or by well-meaning music teachers afraid that a boy will ruin his adult voice by carrying on singing through his voice change.

So, basically... wise, lucky Libera: making the most of a wonderful thing!

Yes, that would've been very nice.

And I wonder if we'll ever see the Eternal Light video filmed outside. James Threadgill is in that one.

Really interesting what you all write here. Can't quote all, but thanks to the person who uploaded it. The way how the clip is shot reminds me of older SoP-Libera clips. Does anyone know why little Matthew Madine is showed in concerts but not in tv appearances?
O Sanctissima is a wonderful song. Beautiful that the younger & middle choristers are more in the focus now. But I must confess I am sorry that they let poor Ben act like a boy treble. Was the same with Josh in Lullabye. Now we have big differences between concert-/live-soloists and video-/tv-appearance-soloists.

The Video was made in March 2010 when Libera had also the concert in Arundel. In this time Sanctissima was sung by Ben.

Then starting at Bristol (October 2010) Sanctissima was sung bei Ralph.

So there is no discrepancy between Shows and Videos. But time can change a lot.
