Good advice, thanks for that. The problem is I'd have to train it down (cheaper than petrol for 1 travelling by car) so getting there and back at night and then back to King's Cross for the train home would be a bit of hassle. FDL has a good line in bed bug ridden hell holes for under £50 a night, but looking at the venue I'm not sure if I want to go now..........FanInPlymouth wrote:You'll have to search for hotels in greater London and not central as they are too expensive. I am staying at Premier Inn in Elstree/Boreham Wood as the rooms are £29 per night. It's about 40 mins drive from Ally Pally. Look also for Travelodge as they often have good rates.Yorkie wrote:I have a ticket but am struggling to find two nights decent hotel accommodation at a decent price.
Once you're into central London, you are looking at £100 per night!

Re: Songs of Praise 50th Anniversary celebration
FYI, the concert is due to be shown on BBC1 week later on 2nd October. Someone mentioned whether it will be in HD, I can't confirm but the current series is being shown in HD. I will record the show (SD only, sorry!) and upload it to YouTube but, of course, there is a risk that the BBC will pull it!
Re: Songs of Praise 50th Anniversary celebration
If in addition to Youtube, someone were to hypothetically upload such a video to a file site like Rapidshare or something, then a lot of non-UKers might be very happy. In theory.

Temporary for split
I received the book that compliments the 50 years celebration a few days ago. It's written by Trevor Barnes.
It displays two colour pictures of Libera when they performed Love and Mercy and Sanctus in St Bartholomew the Great, but we have seen these before. There's also a short passage on Robert Prizeman as their musical adviser. Quite a good read if you want to chart the history of the TV series, however don't just buy on the basis of expecting lots of Libera content.

Re: Compilations collection
Thank you very much for the inside details Jimmy
128 pages for less than £8, it's interesting.
... maybe it will be sold directly at the Alexandra palace ?
25 days remains before the show. Are you going Jimmy ?

Re: Compilations collection
I did toy with idea but being on a Sunday isn't very convenient for me, although I do appreciate that's the most appropriate day such an event was going to be held on. The seating layout could also be a disadvantage for those that turn up late. Sorry this is off-topic it really should be part of the SoP50 thread, my fault.fan_de_LoK wrote:25 days remains before the show. Are you going Jimmy ?

Me!

It will be my first experience of Libera-in-the-flesh, although I realise they are only a small part of the show. Still, as we have a dearth of UK concerts, this will be better than nothing.

Re: Songs of Praise 50th Anniversary celebration
Having posted this message yesterday, it seems that the concert may not be shown on the 2nd after all. The latest BBC press release refers to 3 programmes celebrating the 50th anniverday. The first programme visits the chapel which was the location for the very first SoP. For the second programme, Aled Jones introduces a special edition that features many of the magic moments from half a century of Songs Of Praise. And in the third programme, Celebrating 50 Years country music legend LeAnn Rimes and gospel diva Beverley Knight join superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli and Katherine Jenkins for the Songs Of Praise 50th Birthday Celebration, to be recorded at Alexandra Palace in London on Sunday 25 September.FanInPlymouth wrote:FYI, the concert is due to be shown on BBC1 week later on 2nd October. Broadcast dates are not stipulated in the press release.

Re: Songs of Praise 50th Anniversary celebration
Hypothetically speaking, if some hypothetical person were to upload a hypothetical clip of a hypothetical group of singers from a hypothetical TV programme, then one would hypothetically imagine that hypothetical people would, indeed, be hypothetically rather hypothetically chuffed to hypothetical bits.Grunthex wrote:If in addition to Youtube, someone were to hypothetically upload such a video to a file site like Rapidshare or something, then a lot of non-UKers might be very happy. One may indeed hypothetically see a link for said hypothetical clip to appear on such a hypothetical file-sharing service!
But - clearly! - one is only speaking hypothetically.

Oh crap , we have to sing the hymns
That almost certainly means close up's of the audience

Surely with 7,000 people, there should be a good chance of avoiding the BBC cameras lol - they can't film everyone. Then again they will have quite a few camerasYorkie wrote:Oh crap , we have to sing the hymnsThat almost certainly means close up's of the audience
