Celtic Thunder

Post by libera36 »

So... any Celtic Thunder fans over here?? I love their sound. I just found out about them recently, and have since bought both their albums off iTunes. Not to say, I actually have all the songs I paid for... Gah, I hate iTunes....

Not quite a fan yet, but just taken notice for this group. I missed their concert here in Vancouver a few weeks ago. Friend of mine went and was blown away by them. :o

From all that's fair, from all that's foul,
Peals out a cheerful song.'

I kinda like their songs too, a few of the songs. They sound quite good and I like Damian's voice cos I find it kind of unique. I like "Come by the hills" and "Bird without wings" the most.

Celtic Thunder

Yes I like Celtic Thunder. I first saw them on a PBS special or something last summer. I like "Come By the Hills" and "Brothers in Arms" a lot. I think they might have another album on iTunes right now but I haven't listened to it or bought it yet.

Walking in the Air is originally by CT, isn't it?

Love that.

Is it?? To be honest, I have no idea. I thought it was composed by Howard Blake, though... For The Snowman...

I hope Libera re-does Walking In The Air, with Flynn as the soloist. I think he'd do a beautiful job on it!

Oops...maybe not...I don't know  plead total ignorance!

Yes, I'd love to hear that again--it's such a haunting, beautiful melody: a chance to show off one of their new soloists (without giving it the "committee treatment" a-la some of the new version of Salva!)

Yeah, that would be excellent. Libera has so much new talent right now, the future CD's are looking good! I mean, Kavana can hit all the top notes, Alex has a smooth voice well suited for a lot of Libera songs, as does Flynn and Stefan's voice just pierces through the air so clearly that it makes me shiver, even through the video taken by DearMadine at the CC morning service... And from what I've heard, Daniel, Mini-James and Freddie all have excellent voices too!

Walking In The Air is old enough that Aled Jones recorded a version of it while he was still a trebel. I think it is from some musical or play. Not sure though.

Yeah, I just looked it up. "Walking in the Air" was written by Howard Blake for The Snowman, which came out in 1982. Treble Peter Auty sang it in the film. In 1985, Aled Jones sang it, and it reached #5 in UK charts... So I think Aled Jones really made it famous, even if he wasn't "the original" singer! Also noticed that Aled Jones has a son who is about 4 years old... I wonder if he'll sing with Libera someday. Aled always says Libera is the worlds best boy band!

I have both Celtic Thunder CD's and their DVD show. For the record, we're talking about Celtic Thunder (the show) with George, Paul, Ryan, Keith, and Damien, not Celtic Thunder (the band), which the latter has been around the American celtic scene for many years.

I've also seen their first shows in both their fall 2008 and spring 2009 tours (Binghamton and Syracuse, respectively) in the US. For those who haven't had the chance to see the show, it's amazing! They have another CD and DVD coming out over the summer (Take Me Home), which includes many new songs for the group.

Damien's voice has changed, and he is now a Baritone/Bass. Come By The Hills is now sung about an octave lower in concert. :)

I'm jealous, very, very, jealous... They went to Binghamton?? Wow, Binghamtons not very big in comparison to the other cities they go too! Next time they are near me, I'm going. If at all possible, that is. I'd love to see the show live! In the preview of the new DVD there is a clip of Damian singing A Bird Without Wings... He sounds so different!

I don't think they'll be touring again until the autumn, but I would definitely keep an eye on them on facebook and on their website, just to be sure. They also switched in/out some songs.

Songs taken out of the show in the spring (compared to DVD/fall show):
Mountain's of Mourne - Keith
The Voyage - George
Puppy Love - Damien
Brothers in Arms - Ryan
She - Paul
Young Love - Damien
My Boy - George ? (I think this was taken out)
Mull of Kintyre - ensemble

Songs added into the show (compared to DVD):
Danny Boy- ensemble (was in the fall show)
Yesterday's Men - George
Castles in the Air - Keith
Every Breath You Take - Ryan
500 Miles - George
You Raise Me Up - Paul
Happy Birthday Sweet 16 - Damien
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Damien
Take Me Home - ensemble
It's a Working Man I Am - George (and later ensemble)
A new instrumental piece for the band

I can't find my program from the spring concert, so I'm doing this from memory.
