I'm confused....

Post by libera36 »

So, I showed Libera to a couple of friends the other day (again, I had hoped their perspective had change  ) and they still don't appreciate the beauty of the music at all :? :( Why is this?? I mean, how can anybody deny how beautiful and moving their music is???

Haha. That's pretty true tako fire.

With regards to the original question, it baffles the mind how some people can't like Libera's music. But I suppose they just have a different taste in music. For example, I think Gregorian chant and traditional Latin hymns are really very beautiful but you guys might not agree.

What question did you ask them? Did you ask them if they think it's beautiful or if they like it? If it's a question of beauty, I think even those who don't like this kind of music have to admit that it is beautiful (if you believe that objective beauty still exists today). Whether they like it or not is up to them.

Yep; different people have different tastes. There's nothing wrong with that. (Some tastes may, such as those I don't have, may be odd and unnatural, but not exactly wrong.)

I don't understand how people could really like a steady diet of rap or hip-hop, but I do find it not to hard to guess that such people would have a hard time relating to Libera's style (or, for that matter, to something like Messiaen's Quartet For The End of Time)

Well I've also shown Libera to some people, but they're usually noncommittal or say they don't really like it; I guess it's because most people I know don't like to listen to choral music, although Libera is not traditional choral music in the sense that the Vienna Boys' Choir and Cambridge Singers etc. sing more traditional choral music. It must all boil down to taste in music. Using classical music as an example: my sister really enjoys orchestral classical music, but I enjoy vocal classical music instead. People just must not like choral music. My brother (who likes virtually all kinds of music) does not like Libera because he says he doesn't like boy choirs... Just kidding, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I just hope that soon more people will become fans of the amazing group, LIBERA!

Ah, but which version of "Sanctus"? There are so many, and each of them wonderful...would you show them "Sanctus" from Libera, "Sanctus II" from Luminosa, "Locus Iste" from Visions or "Sanctus" from Angel Voices or Angel Voices: Libera in Concert? (Sorry if I missed a version of "Sanctus").

as the saying goes; 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.... the fact that other peopl don't appreciate Libera as much as we do means, for me anyway, that they are the lessor for it. We are the priviledged ones....

Remember: Misery loves company. People often choose music that validates them.
