Thanks Yorkie. I'm always a bit shocked (but in a good sense ) when I hear such big music played in the subdued environment of the Abbey
I'll listen to it properly in the morning, for now (just before going to bed) it's way too dramatic

How about a picture of Yorkie's own massive organ?

Warning - hijacked thread alert.
Now, as you know the best brass bands in the world are English, and the North of England has the best of the best, but Yorkshire is the home of absolute, undisputed, unsurpassed, pinnacle of brass band achievement. I give you:

The York Minster version of Toccata was also very interesting.
''Toccata In D Minor Black Dyke Band'' was quite a surprise- not dramatic at all. High tempo composition and well deserved applause in the end.I like them, and a new find for me.

Cheers. I double posted the same link originally, now amended the third link to it's correct one.

Nicest hijack ever!
Great sounding brass band and a cute looking trumpet player as well
I wonder how Libera would sound backed by these players
Incidentally, I'm going to see the Amsterdam Staff Band of the Dutch Salvation Army next Sunday I've only ever seen them play a couple of songs on a poetry festival and this will be my first time ever that I will see a proper concert of a brass band

Back on topic though
The York Minster organ has a very elegant sound, thanks for sharing.
Here's a piece I recently discovered which is very festive and has many different versions on YT. This one is by Gert van Hoef who plays it relatively slow, which I think I like most of all.

I've seen the Black Dyke Band live they were great of course, but I thought Brighouse and Rastric gave a slightly better peformance when they performed a concert in Saddleworth last year. Speaking of which, The Whit Friday Brass Band Contests held annually, the first Friday after Pentecost (seven weeks after Easter) is internationally recognised as 'Brass Band heaven' I've been a few times and it seems to be more popular than the last time.

I've never forgiven them for Floral Dance Jimmy Grimethorpe is another good one, but a bit further for me than Black Dyke or B&R. You introducing yourself on Friday?

Thanks for this - I think I saw a similar video before but this is very informative - though I'm a mess at remembering all those stops and sounds I'll learn, gradually...
