This situation affects all people differently, whether we are directly or indirectly involved. Let's all do our best to respect each other's opinions and concentrate on thinking good thoughts! A little positive thinking goes a long way.

Considering the circumstance that Libera is in, it would be quite apt if Jakob started singing Lead, Kindly Light.

The origin of the song is quite familiar, too:
As a young priest, John Newman became sick while in Italy and was unable to travel for almost three weeks. In his own words:
Before starting from my inn, I sat down on my bed and began to sob bitterly. My servant, who had acted as my nurse, asked what ailed me. I could only answer, "I have a work to do in England." I was aching to get home, yet for want of a vessel I was kept at Palermo for three weeks. I began to visit the churches, and they calmed my impatience, though I did not attend any services. At last I got off in an orange boat, bound for Marseilles. We were becalmed for whole week in the Straits of Bonifacio, and it was there that I wrote the lines, Lead, Kindly Light, which have since become so well known.
Hopefully, for the boys, it wouldn't be three weeks.

No, bus/coach. It's a long old trip and to hire a coach and drivers will cost a fair few quid. 36 hours on a bus = Betty Swollocks :(

36 hrs in a bus? My limit's 7... Haha. :)

Nice quote Carina. Where did you find it? I love LKL. It's one of my favorites from Peace. I love the simplicity by which Newman wrote his poem. And the music that Prizeman wrote to go with it.

And...

Cue, "Lead, Kindly Light" :

Looked like some staff and crew had their luggage with them. They may have gone straight to the airport after the concerts.

Oops. Sorry, I forgot to put the link. It is from Wikipedia.

I knew about Cardinal Newman before I knew this song. But I didn't know this poem/song until I heard it from Libera. It's now one of my favorite poems and it provides beautiful quotations as well.

I could sense Cardinal Newman's frustration from that quote, something we all could relate to.

Thanks Carina. So it was in fact written as a hymn according to that article. Nice.

As for the situation they're in right now, I'm confident that they'll reach home safely. They're in good hands. EMI and their management company will find them the fastest and safest route. Those travelling personally, though, and are stranded are really in a dire situation.

I'm not sure if it was written as a hymn. I believe it is a poem originally entitled The Pillar of the Cloud, and that Wiki refers to it as a hymn because it is a popular hymn sung until today.

Aled Jones talked about Libera being stranded in Athens on his Good Morning Sunday program, and hints at something interesting towards the end...

Thanks Carina. The more I learn about this poem, the more I love Libera's rendition of LKL. :)

I have really fallen in love with it, and I am grateful for Libera for introducing me to it. I knew for sometime now about Cardinal Newman's beatification in September, but I don't really know the man except that he was one of the biggest intellectuals in the UK. This poem makes him more 'real' to me.

live on the show? Hmm...

Trust Aled to give us Libera updates and trust you, Jimmy, to share it to us.

Thanks!

My sister sent me a vid she shot during the post-gala signing and from the background, I heard a security personnel informing someone that the boys' flight was scheduled for Friday, 11pm, just two hours after the concert. I can't imagine how tired the boys are and their chaperones. Anyway, I think they've already hit the road. Hopefully, they can make it on time.

You should be able to stream the show or listen to the podcast later. I believe BBC radio programmes (unlike t.v. shows) are available free to overseas listeners.

Thanks Jimmy, I missed the show this morning because I was playing golf.

No worries, I'll probably capture it anyway, just in case people can't listen to it. Always enjoy a live performance by Libera!

Lead kindly light has grown on me alot too, since I bought the CD. Although 'adore te' is still my favourite.

Shame, they put everything in motion to be back probably not only for school on Monday but maybe even Sunday services at St Philips. Hope they make it back safe, even if it means them missing a few days off school. Safety if paramount to anything else. Besides according to the news, they might be traveling over the channel in a Royal Navy ship!! lol

Indeed, in that video above, you can see some of the staff already had their luggage with them when they left the concert venue. It's one of those things that happen to us humans. Sometimes not everything goes as planned. And yes, safety first. Worry about school or exams later, if ever there's a need to worry. One step at a time. Step one is how to reach home safely. Lead, Kindly Light is really apt in this kind of situations.

And really really shame that a successful tour had to end this way... I hope this doesn't change any future plans to revisit the Far East. :( I mean, it was not our volcano... :)
