I've been listening to the video over and again (just to check your work) and I agree with the restoration of glorious in that troublesome last verse.

Yes, I think I'm with you when it comes to synths, etc. I'd much prefer to hear the boys singing with a little light accompaniment, but that said RP's vision is of Libera breaking out of the past and mixing traditional with modern.lacrymosa2 wrote:I really enjoy this song. In fact, it ties in to the concept of "O Sanctissima" by relying mostly on delicate instrumentals. Usually, I am not a fan when Rob Prizeman uses too much synthesizers on the piece or when he replaces the high notes in pieces like "Sanctus" or "Far Away" with Fiona Pears' violin, but the violin ties into this piece very well. Listening to it, I felt that the song had two features in common with "Voca Me", such as Josh's voice resembling Chris Robson and how the piece did not overly rely on synthesizers and drum machines. The difference of this piece compared to the other Libera repertoires, including "Voca Me", is that the choir only provides the "aahhs" and the soloists delivered majority of the lines and no Latin verses were used in this piece. Although I do like the Latin verses in some of their classic works.
Overall, I must say that Libera scored another five stars and kudos to Ian Tilley and Fiona Pears for creating this wonderful, original piece. Plus, it helps that Libera is the only junior music group I would listen to.
I think he only uses instruments on the high notes when he is lacking a lad who can sing it - if the one who normally does it can't make a particular concert or has a bad throat or something. It might be a bit more common over the next year or so while the new members bed down and develop.

I thought Id get myself familiar with the song before commenting
Personally I agree with you all in that I think its brilliant! I love Josh's voice in it and mini ben sounds better than ive ever heard him sound before!
Its a shame Tom's not in the video, it doesnt necessarily mean hes not in the group anymore but I do wonder if we've seen the last of him
Sorry I cant remember who said it but I agree with whoever mentioned concern about how it would sound live as Josh's voice is definately sounding deeper and mini bens guna have to get alot of power behind his parts!
The new album is going to be amazing Im sure - March seems so far away though! I hope we find out the names of the new boys soon
also I hope we get to hear solos from lots of the mini boys - Steffan and Flynn especially for me!
PS, Thank You to Yorkie for the lyrics!

I've lost count how many times I've listened to it now.Yorkie wrote: Yes, you'd better look at the lyrics because it took me ages and I can't tell you how many listen throughs!
It's not a sad song in my opinion - solemn is probably more accurate. It is about God so I don't think it could be described as sad

Each time I watch the video I find something new to love about it. Whether it's Freddie smiling and gently bobbing his head to the intro, or Jakob's beautiful sleep eyes, or Ben's random quirky look, or...the list goes on.
I love it!

I do love Ben's look all though the video as he is trying so hard to not burst into a huge smail , we all know what a show boater he is and he loves getting solo,s so he must be loving this at the moment and it shows.carina_gino20 wrote:I've lost count how many times I've listened to it now.Yorkie wrote: Yes, you'd better look at the lyrics because it took me ages and I can't tell you how many listen throughs!

Yes Ben seems to be the main focus now, I must admit I thought over the summer that he had moved on to new things in his life - so glad to be wrong.dani wrote:I do love Ben's look all though the video as he is trying so hard to not burst into a huge smail , we all know what a show boater he is and he loves getting solo,s so he must be loving this at the moment and it shows.
I wonder when they started recording the album? I have it in mind that they might do it over a period of time (maybe one song every few weeks). If that is the case there is a possibility that Ed, Liam, Josh. etc will still feature as soloists if some of the tracks were cut in the summer. I hope so.
Looks like my dream of getting a video of Ed's Mysterium is gone for ever though

This video has been produced to appeal to a more mainstream audience. There's more of a central focus on the two main leading solos (Josh and Ben) and slightly less participation from the rest of the group with their famous high parts. Different to a song like 'O Sanctissima' for example, which as a slow momentum building chorus.
I thought Josh and Ben gave stellar peformances with their solos and it was an inspired idea to get their two very different voices together like this.
There is a little studio enhancement of their voices, but that's the case with every professionally produced music video that goes out to a wide audience. The video is very simple, but works well for being so. It's a reflective, contemplative song, that needs no fireworks or special effects to convey the message it intended too.
Ben will probably take a prime role on the CD and in future concerts, but this video is the fitting swansong to Josh that he richly deserves. It seems to be a theme to bestow long standing members at the final stages of their treble range, that one last dedicated solo. It's a trend I welcome, and hope it continues in the future.
'Time' is doing very well in the Youtube views, favourites, and rating stats too.

It's really great how their voices just work well together even though they are very different. It's something special.JimmyRiddle wrote:

I really like that idea of making a last song for a soloist nearing the end of their soloist career. As I thought before when they released You Were There, if a boy soloist has to go (at least to the back row), this is the way to go.JimmyRiddle wrote: Ben will probably take a prime role on the CD and in future concerts, but this video is the fitting swansong to Josh that he richly deserves. On that note, I really wish they have a solo vid of Liam. Even if it's an old video they made of Sancte, even if it's not as professionally done as You Were There or Time, I'd gladly welcome it. He looks so grown up now and I really would just love to have a music video of him singing the solo.

Absolutely, I desperately wanted to see a video of Liam singing his part in Sancte. I'm just praying that the shortened version that featured Tom in the songs of praise libera special, might have a full version in the archives somewhere that they will pull out for us to enjoy.carina_gino20 wrote:On that note, I really wish they have a solo vid of Liam. I would be truly stunned if RP let the old boys go without giving them a last hurrah - assuming their voices were still intact when they recorded the tracks. I think RP knows how special this 'current' crop of lads are.dani wrote:Yes i would be gutted if there is nothing on the album with Liam now they have done " Time" with Josh . There have been better singers and, dare I say, better songs but this batch of boys has reached far more people than any other. They are the YouTube generation and if earlier boys laid the foundations, Tom, Josh, Ed, Liam, Ben and the rest have built the 160 floors of the Burj Khalifa on top.
I know I'll miss them.

Got to say " Time " is right up there for me as one of there best songs and will also say Liam is one of there best ever solost .Yorkie wrote:I would be truly stunned if RP let the old boys go without giving them a last hurrah - assuming their voices were still intact when they recorded the tracks. I do think sometimes with the new batch of Libera fans, them being teenage girls that looks now play a big part in who is popular , so many Josh comments " oh my god he is so fit" " i love his new curley hair" and so on that talent is now sometimes now being overlooked and Liam does not seem to get the same attention as Josh or Tom . Even Ed who has a good voice barely gets a mention.
Oh, I agree Time is a great song and I truly hope I like Peace better than Libera, Luminosa or Free - I'll be sure to let you know.dani wrote:Got to say " Time " is right up there for me as one of there best songs and will also say Liam is one of there best ever solost .

I agree about looks over talent and I often wonder why Liam didn't get the chance to do more than the odd solo, he certainly has a good voice (and he ain't shabby in the looks department if I say so myself (and I probably should pretend that I can't tell like men normally do when commenting on these things

I'll run for cover now

Yep poor old Ed , coz is he not more of a senior memeber than even Mini Ben ? so i will find it interesting to see how many solo Ed gets this album , as most of us seem to agree on the fact this could be Mini Ben's album which would be unfair on Ed.Yorkie wrote:Oh, I agree Time is a great song and I truly hope I like Peace better than Libera, Luminosa or Free - I'll be sure to let you know.dani wrote:Got to say " Time " is right up there for me as one of there best songs and will also say Liam is one of there best ever solost .

But I think Ed is the biggest loser overall. It wasn't until I heard them live in Edinburgh that I realised how good he was, but like you say, his looks aren't going to win him the screamy teeny fans that Tom and Josh get. IMHO he is a better singer than Josh and possibly Tom.
