They performed in New York around that time and sounded great - a big deal being made about the retirement of Stephen Darlington; though it appears now that he can't step away . I also didn't realize one of the choristers was YCOTY at the time! Or maybe that happened after, I don't recall now.

Sadly their California tour this time around is too far from me. Thanks for the info.

April 2018 at St Thomas?

If that was the one, Alexander wasn't YCOTY champ until the late 2020 competition, he was up against Archie White, Sebastian Carrington and others.

I was never entirely convinced ChCh were as good under Grahl. Actually same as New College, they were better under Higginbottom. Although, perhaps that's just rose-tinted, uhhm, ear trumpets?

'twer far better in my day, lad! Choristers knew how to sing proper back then! Twenty hours down pit, and a four mile hike each way and then singing five services int' cathedral at full volume and note perfect! Aye, they don't make 'em like they used to, that's for sure!

Talking of not convinced, Tiffin Boys Choir are singing in Carmina Burana today and Tuesday and I've got a ticket for Tuesday. But I've never really been that impressed by the choir. I've heard their Verdi's Requiem some years ago which was ok, but nothing special, and the Dream of Gerontius last year, which was very underwhelming. In fact the best thing that director (Mr. Day) has done is attend a CVMS Messiah concert a few years back, so Scott could show him how it's done.  (I was sat right behind him)

Still Carmina Burana is difficult to mess up and should hopefully be awesome. :D

Yes, definitely at Saint Thomas. I remember the venue if not the other details of the concert.

Oh I see. He may have been in the choir at the time though I would certainly have no recollection of that.

All this being said after 5 pints of ale, eh?    This had me laughing so hard LOL

Enjoy....even if they've not proven to be as good as you'd like.

He was on that tour, sadly the tour blog has gone from the Christ Church site... but here is one of their other concerts from that tour. Perhaps it will jog your memory. All that unhealthy gymensong is clearly rotting your mind. :P

Oh my mind rotted out years ago, why do you think I come here to engage in so much laughter and mirth? A sane person wouldn't do such things....would he? :?:   Besides, with the choir on summer break there hasn't been any evensong to go with my gym time....unacceptable! Why do you think I listened to that Cormac podcast if not for lack of evensong? 8)

Anyway lol, thanks for the link. Though I don't remember that concert being particularly noteworthy to be honest with you. It was pleasant, sure, but nothing like the wonderful performances of New College the two times I saw them on tour in the US. Once in New York in a joint concert with Saint Thomas, and another time for a solo concert in some (relatively) unassuming church in Connecticut.

BTW Surpinto have you ever considered a bit of dance music for the gym instead? Surely something to get the adrenalin going a bit more than the Preces and Responses?

I have always had a liking for a bit of House or Electro House like Deadmau5 or Marshmello, or a bit of Dubstep like Skrillex...

Perhaps I can help you with a nice easy opener to the world of House music??

Depends who you think they are.

So have I got you into House music yet? Maybe some Dubstep too? Come on... one time just experience a bass drop that doesn't involve a string player's floor anchor breaking... #dubstepclassicaljokethatnoonewillget 8)

Don't give too much away! :P I was trying to see how many people would be brave enough to click a link they likely had no interest in from the description.

Though I actually do like that kind of music... but then I also like death metal... :P

Genuinely think that tune is an absolute banger! I've got it on loop right now... :D

London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Shostakovich Symphony No. 3 followed by Carmina Burana. The Shostakovich was great, but the Carmina Burana was fantastic, standing ovation for that. Tiffin Boys were good, and I think for the first time for me there were surtitles for all the words. Which really helped emphasize how amusing they are... had to stifle a chuckle at one point!!

Booked through the LSO Wildcard scheme. £12 for a mystery seat. I got Row E circle which would normally be £70. :D
