Nice compilation Sue, thanks. Looking forward to the other 2 parts.
Those choirs are so big! I bet they are well suited for rousing Baroque choruses ;) Is there a special explanation why they're so big? Is it very traditional in Germany to sing in (cathedral/church) choirs? It looks really nice to see so many young people dedicated to singing, it gives a sense of community.

Second Part is up now, there is my own choir attending at 3:16
You're right, the most german cathedral choirs are very big. Also my own has 100 members. But we're never all at the same place at the same time :D (only once a week) Sunday worship for example, only some members attend there, not all. The same on choir trips.

To your question, there was a time when german cathedral choirs had big recruitment problems. To handle this, they improved their recruitment processes & now there are more young people joining choirs. Plus, there are more Germans who looking for a religion or spirituality in the last years. Also joining a choir often means musically education, german music lesson in state schools has a very, very bad quality.
