Only one selection

Well I had to choose, and it was a difficult choice, Once in Royal David’s city.

Given more choices my list would have looked something like this.

Once in Royal David’s city
Veni, Veni Emmanuel
Coventry Carol
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
O Holy Night

I voted Carol of the Bells. If given more choices Veni, Veni Emmanuel, The First Nowell, and Jubilate Deo would be on the list.

For me it's "Carol of the Bells", but I freely admit that the availabilty of a Video that showcases the current lineup has a strong influence. Also I prefer the lighter less formal type of music that Libera embraces within it's wide repertoire. All very subjective of course :)

Suprised 'In Dulci Jubilo' hasnt' got a vote yet, that got quite a decent response on the 'clapometer' at the St G concert. Maybe it's because it ends with such an uplifting high descant. I'll vote for this one. VVE, SSS, COTB also contenders.

Much as I was tempted to vote for CotB, in the end I opted for the track that is by far the most outstanding Libera song on the album - Jubilate Deo.

Had to give my nod to Carol of the Bells, though it's kinda neat to see my favorite three songs are the 3 frontrunners.

Well, that's really hard :D but I think it would definatly be Coventry Carol!
dolorosa, flumenosa, desolata, lacrimabila-
the water sighs for me
Through teardrops now I see
The streaming water knows
The fountain overflows

To cry for all, to wash all sorrows in waves of peace and love
Free my thirsty soul again
O living fountain

I voted for Still, Still, Still as that is the song that touches me the most. It really captures the spirit of Christmas for me, it takes me to the stable where Jesus was born.

I also like how the lyrics about "angel voices" and "seraph choirs" are sung by Ralph (currently my favourite soloist), like he is urging his fellow Libera choristers on to sing the newborn child's praises :) And the lyrics about light are sung by contrasting low and high voices, which evokes the contrast of light in the dark of night. And that in turn is a very moving symbolic take on the meaning of the birth of Christ.

At first I thought maybe the string arrangement was too much and would take up too much time in the song at the cost of beautiful singing, but I've changed my mind. Some might find it sappy or overdone but to me the arrangement, if you listen carefully to the weaving of melodic lines, really evokes the streams of angels and an atmosphere of reverence.

Close second was Coventry Carol. I like its uniqueness in Libera's repertoire and Josh does a great job in capturing the dramatics of the song. The low bass we hear in the background also gives a very 'haunting' feel to the song.

Btw - I'm surprised no one has voted for White Christmas. Stefan fans, where are you?

Through stormy night lifting me above
