Some choirs sometimes have a go at folk music. I know the Weiner Sangerknaben did a CD of alpine folk songs for example.
My favourite though is New College Oxford's "Early One Morning" album English folk songs released about 20 years ago. It has my favourite rendition of Greensleeves on it:
It can be an interesting challenge for a choir to record folk songs, as they generally don't feature harmonies and counterpoint etc. So they can either be rearranged into something quite different or just sung rather plainly.
I know some English cathedral choirs have ventured into this territory occasionally, but there don't seem to be many treble choir folk recordings out there. Anyone know of any others?

It's basically the same tune but the lyrics are different

Re: Folk music
There is an album by Christ Church Cathedral Choir (before Liam's time) which is comprised of songs from around the world which I would say could be considered to be folk. It is called 'We Are The Burning Fire - songs from a small planet' by Howard Goodall.j8000 wrote: ↑7 years ago Some choirs sometimes have a go at folk music. Great stuff, thanks for recommending. Rather different from Higginbottom's approach though, but it takes all sorts etc.Yorkie wrote: ↑7 years ago There is an album by Christ Church Cathedral Choir (before Liam's time) which is comprised of songs from around the world which I would say could be considered to be folk.
