Compilations collection

In this thread I propose to list as much compilations as possible from all the World that included at least one track from a Libera CD or from a St Philip Boys Choir CD.

Not concerned here : the real Libera CDs, the collaboration with other artists (example : the Nutcracker), or compilation being only MP3.


So far the list is 102 CDs long.

Some were found by Lauren, Jimmy Riddle, Jyaire and Treble.

CDs are sorted by decreasing release date.

After the CD with only 12 versions of the same title "Ave Maria", I have found a CD having 14 versions of "Amazing Grace"



There is songs in English, in Welsh (I think), in various intrumentals... and there is the version from the Angel Voices n°2 CD.

It's funny they used this St Philip's version, it was released a long time, 13 years, before that 2009 compilation.

At first I tought it would be boring to listen 14 times in a row the same song, but having heard the excerpts suite on the Amazon page, I must say it's very pleasant as interpretations vary widely

So, I took some time to study this list a bit better. I noticed a couple of things - the most popular songs are Sanctus (in any of its many incarnations), Stay With Me, Salva Me, Far Away and Voca Me. Do Not Stand is also a good contender. About Voca Me I must say I am most pleased as it is not a song generally agreed on as a favourite - at least the impression I got on this forum so far is that opinions are divided. It is a very impressive song but also tending to the 'heavy' side so it's a compliment that makers of compilation CDs are willing to choose it instead of a 'safer' option like the other songs mentioned. Ofcourse, Voca Me does showcase some of the best of what Libera has to offer in terms of composition and singing. (and I like it very much! )

The You Were There piano solo on Smooth Classics (2009) - it would be interesting to find out who played that and if it is also available somewhere else. (I still mean to learn You Were There on the piano myself one day...).

Well, the song is said from Libera on each site I had found that were giving tracks information on this CD.
A few of them : Lastfm, CDFrog, Tunesbag.


But tonight I have pushed further my search by looking especially on that track name. And I have now found three other sites imputing that track to another interprete : Ozap, Wippit, Rhapsody
They say that "Ecce vidimus eum " is sung by the "Choeur Grégorien De Paris", which is contradictive from previous sites.
The thrid site, Rhapsody, presents the possibility to listen a preview of the track but it's restricted to USA only so I can't listen it myslef.

I must say that considering the title of the song and the fact that it is unknown to the libera fan community, it's most probable that this track is not from Libera...



Last Edit : The track is accessible to full listening (stream) on Napster, and it's absolutely clear that it's not Libera who sings

Thanks for the good work on this, I think its great that someone takes the time to do this, listening to other artists alongside Libera is an excellent way of discovering new music.

Oh come on, have some imagination! Boys will be boys! I'll bet that more than one Libera member has had a copy of Playboy, Penthouse, Mayfair, or something similar stashed between his mattresses during his tenure with Libera.
