I had to look for the original (which was easy) in Youtube because I hadn't heard this song before. I thought you nailed that song, even though I find it strange hearing the narrator's words who is a dad from a young voice who is clearly not a father, yet. Words like "Picked up my kid from school today," or "He said" and then the words go on to tell what the kid said to his dad. But lyrics aside, I thought you nailed the song and sang it well.
How about covering Rufus Wainwright's "Hallelujah", which is itself a cover, or Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", or Randy Newman's "Feels Like Home"? These too were written with an adult singer in mind, but they don't have specific words that would feel strange being sang by a younger singer.
You sing well. I wish I could sing that well when I was your age, whatever your age is currently.
Keep up the good work. Your boring holidays are helping people like me discover a new song without even consciously looking for one.
