The recording that I have is under David Hill and was issued in 2001, though I suspect that it was recorded earlier than that. It's very, very good. Is that the one?

If I remember correctly, you're on the right track about Britten composing for Westminster Cathedral. I think the story goes that he was so impressed with the choristers' presentation of A Ceremony of Carols that he wrote his Missa Brevis with them specifically in mind.

Yes, I think it is the same - recorded 26/27 June 1986. Sioned Williams on harp, James O'Donnell on organ and David Hill master of Music.

The liner notes confirm Missa Brevis in D as being written in 1959 for the boys of Westminster Cathedral (track 13 on the CD)

Listened to the Monteverdi choir, they're definitely quite good, but aren't they entirely or mostly adults?

Yes, they are entirely adults. I don't think anybody claimed otherwise + the video and links posted earlier showed that.

No idea how they beat the like of Westminster Abbey (and Cathedral not even making the list), New College or St John's  Just shows how subjective these things are.....
