That was so fun! :D

He did very well too! A strong and no-nonsense approach to conducting.

Anyway, my current favourite soloist is by far, Daniel White, who I have seen so far in:

9 Libera Concerts
5 Other concerts
3 Operas

:D

It fills me with sadness that he has already dropped into the "alto" category, albeit with the capacity still to sing soprano I think. My fingers are crossed that he manages the top line a bit longer...
He did the high notes in I Am the Day in Ely :)
You raise me high beyond the sky
Through stormy night lifting me above

When first posed, this was such an easy question for me - TDL hands down. But then along came Daniel. After his first concert appearance (Westminster, December 2017) I wrote:

“Lovely performance of “Carol of the Bells” came next with new “miniboy” (and certain future star performer) Daniel White singing the final Ding Dong. He later gave a very confident speech about the miniboys relating that they were all aged eight but that he had just turned nine!”

Well now, almost five years later, Daniel has certainly lived up to, even surpassed, expectations. He has joined the ranks of Libera legends and now rivals TDL for top spot.

Am I the only one whose favorite soloist is the one I'm currently listening to?

To me, every single soloist is perfect for that particular song and era. I love them all.

I'm not sure about that. In general some soloists are just more talented than others. That's just how the world works. Certainly there are singers in every generation that I have liked a lot. But sometimes there are exceptional ones that stand out.

All trebles are born equal but some are more equal than others. 😝

The question now is which one of us is Boxer and which one of us is Napoleon. 🤔

Anyway, let's not derail this thread with George Orwell.

The fact remains, some trebles sing better than others, some have styles that may sound better to the ear than others, on personal preference. Maybe even some just happened to sing your favourite song all the time. There are many reasons for having a favourite singer.

DW has an amazing voice, oodles of confidence, humour in his delivery of speeches, leadership qualities and a varied repertory (counting outside Libera: opera, film soundtrack, soprano/alto arias)
