Just for the record, I think Joe will be the soloist on the video, but it will be Luca’s recording. It’s not like the vast majority of people watching will even know the difference.

I can't imagine them doing that. It would be unfair to the actual soloist...

I think it more likely it would be Luca since he is the soloist on the album, but then I find it strange he is not in the middle of the choir in the extracts we got from the video. Really no idea how it is going to be... just curious ! I'd love to get a record of Joseph's voice for sure

That’s not true, because then you could claim it’s unfair that Joe has been singing it in concerts but he didn’t get to record it. Libera is a real team effort.

This is true and from things the boys have said in interviews in the past the ethos of Libera is that it is very much a team effort with no one being 'better' than anyone else, regardless of solos or anything else.

I would still be quite surprised if it was Joseph though for a couple of reasons.

1. We know that at least one of the songs he solos on already has a video (almost certainly Dido's Lament) and probably 2 judging by the pictures in the tweet. In the one where the boys are in the grass Joseph is front and centre and so likely the soloist, especially considering the setting suggests The Lark's Last Song. (Of course if that clip is from another part of the Seabird video that settles it the other way to what I'm claiming). Would they do 3 videos with the same soloist? That might be considered a little unfair.

2. In the still from the video above, Luca doesn't look really too old to be singing treble. I don't think it would stretch belief too far that he could be singing Seabird.

The only thing that makes me doubt that it will be Luca is that in the still he's in the back row which is strange for a soloist. So I'm not entirely sure.

I will bet on Luca. The audio will be out on Friday and the video on Saturday. There is no way the audio isn't from the album, so the audio will be Luca. And the video will match the audio, hence Luca again.

My remark about the unfair matching between Luca's audio and Joseph in the video was more meant as... it's sort of lying. I do not believe Libera would ever do that and I hope they will not.

I agree! Libera is 100% a team effort but wouldn't it be bizarre for the boy's families to see one soloist and to hear another? Seems so to me.

In fact, another forum member and I have already formalized our disagreement in private and entered into a beer related bet on the matter

I think I'll be happily drinking a nice dark ale at this other fan's expense the next time we are both at a Libera concert.

Guess someone from this forum owes me a beer! Luca being the soloist was never in doubt in my mind.

But apart from fun and guessing games, the video has a nice story theme with Luca being drawn out of his interior minds isolation (symbolized by the library) into an outer world in which the exterior allows his mind and spirit to soar upwards like the sea bird. Of course the flip book and the ending scene of Luca back in the library implies that any flight of fancy (pun sort of intended) in which our minds and spirits are drawn upwards can be either symbolic or actual.

Though any way we interpret the music video the cinematography matches the poetic intent of the lyrics.

I was surprised to see them reveal information about the Hills under the video, but I guess if they are comfortable with that then so am I. I suppose it makes sense since they have taken an active role in the music of Libera, unlike parents of other Libera members.

Luca's voice here is just so beautiful, he's lost the brightness and sweetness of his younger voice, but retains the same control and clarity of tone. And he has gained a soulful, mature richness to his voice, with emotional depth. Seabird really captures his peak treble voice.

Throughout his Libera career, I have always appreciated his technical skill, but hoped for more emotive interpretation. But here, In his singing, as well as his acting in the video, he shows a deep connection to the story behind the lyrics.

I still have a feeling Seabird will be my album favorite, but we will have to see!

Wow, love everything about this video and song. So sweet that it’s a family effort. Kudos to the talented parents for writing such a beautiful song and producing such talented kids to help bring it to life. They must be so proud of each other.
I too like the progression from solo in a library to more kids joining in as they enjoy just being together. I like that they are enjoying old school pleasures of books in a library, paper flip books, and innocent frolicking on the beach.
I think it will be hard to pick a favorite song from the entire CD.

I'm glad they were able to capture his treble voice just in the nick of time. This track was recorded on April 2nd, and by the June 8th concert at Ely he was no longer a soloist. As for his ability to sing expressively, I think his album "Through my Eyes" showed an astonishing range. So, this performance came as no surprise to me.

I completely agree that his solo album shows lots of expression, but his work for Libera seems to have been more restrained emotionally, in my opinion. Also, I do wonder if Luca recorded the solo parts earlier, and the choir did their parts in April. I guess we won't know, but to my ear, his voice seems to get quite a bit deeper in the other songs... so I would bet on his Seabird solo being a late 2023 recording.

Why surprised? These are professional musicians who deserve full credit for composing the song.

I completely agree. It's a beautiful song showcasing Luca at the height of his treble abilities. Allowing him to have a solo on a music video is a great way to thank and pay tribute to him for all the work he's done for Libera.

I really like this interpretation! The first time I saw the lyrics of Sea Bird written down I didn't really get it - it seemed an odd song for Libera. But now having heard the song and with this gorgeous video and the link to the album title Dreams it makes more sense and I think your interpretation of it is great.

I agree about his former performances and find it strange given how expressive he is on his individual albums. Possibly the songs he's sung for Libera left less scope for that often? Though I felt he was quite expressive in the Lighthouse video.

A question - who's the boy who comes to collect Luca from the library? I'm terrible with faces so even with the help of Padmachou's gallery I'm not sure.
