Welcome Harry and Viktar!

Thank you Harry for such an informative post. I've never been to either
place; your tips are appreciated.

Due to ordering confusion, I have a single ticket available for sale for both nights of Jersey.
It is in row BB seat 9 on one night and seat 10 on the other.
If anyone is interested in it, please PM me.

Just been looking at the ticket sales for both venues - lets just say they are off to a slow start. I was surprised to see that Guernsey has stronger sales (slightly) as I had thought that might be the least popular venue.

Yes, I think the Jersey Opera House's comment of 'tickets flying' for the concert was a slightly optimistic tweet. I hope they pick up but I have my doubts. I played about with the options of going, but the cheapest flight tickets would mean staying longer than I wanted which would be counteractive when it came to booking hotel accomodation. So i'll just wait until their next UK Concert.

Yeah, it looks like I'm not coming. Just getting there and back alone would cost at least 400 euros, as well as two very long days spent travelling. Not to mention the accommodation. Really too bad.

I think it is the usual lack of advertising and promoting of Libera concerts that is at play here. A friend of mine on Guernsey reports that she has not seen a single poster anywhere on the island, or on Jersey either (she is on both islands every few days). The only promotion being done is amongst Libera's fan communities, mainly online!

Perhaps we as their fans could come up with some ideas regarding better promotion of their concerts, especially for this Tour?

I note someone's been updating their Wikipedia page on a regular basis, every little helps.

Well, posters in key places and flyers would certainly help. After that I can only think of contacting local newspapers and radio but realistically you need to know somebody on the inside to have any chance of getting the details to the right person. I suspect some of our holiday time may involve distributing flyers!

Is this friend of you able to give some time to help promote Librra ? :)

If Libera, by a way or another, can give her some posters and flyers, would it be possible for her to go from shops to shops asking to put little posters on the window ?

I remember Libera calling for this kind of local help before the Cathedrals tour (Oct-Nov 2010) in Bristol, Chester, Beverley.

I will certainly suggest to my contact on the islands that she does just that.

I wonder if this is perhaps the right time to form something like the "Friends of Libera" official support group, with the right to promote Libera and their work anywhere in the world? That way we could voluntarily contact people and distribute flyers, posters, email, web content, etc., etc., etc.

Go to Libera's official website "www.libera.org.uk", and then go to the "Events" page. For each appearance in Jersey and Guernsey, there is a poster in PDF. Perhaps they can be downloaded, and then reproduced. You may want to e-mail Libera to ask if doing so would be all right with them, just as a courtesy. I don't imagine that there would be a problem. I seem to remember that getting posters for the Canadian tour was also done this way. Good luck.

You are right in that it probably cannot hurt to have some kind of concerted effort in each location where a concert is to take place, in order to increase awareness. In Canada, for example, choral music has a modest audience, and the aim is to get Libera's sound out to prospective concertgoers. I have seen other groups, such as a troupe of Chinese acrobats that perform at the concert venue in my city, actually set up a TV/DVD in a mall and run a video of their performance. My point here is that a poster of Libera is a good idea, but perhaps people who see it may only think, "Oh, cute choirboys", and keep on walking, without knowing anything else about how Libera actually sounds. An actual demonstration, through a DVD or by downloading videos available on their website, may be more effective in terms of promoting Libera.

I actually really want to go to these concerts, the ones in Jersey at least, if for nothing else just to fill two more seats.

Flying direct from Cork to Jersey is not an option as those flights are around 350euro

But i checked out a flight to jersey from London Southend and these can be had for about 70 pounds with EasyJet. Of course i would have to book a flight from Cork to Heathrow i presume, this is usually around a hundred euro. And then get over to London Southend for the 'connecting' flight.

If anyone knows of an even cheaper alternative for a flight within england to Jersey then can you let me know as it may be easier for me to get to that airport then going to London. Thanks

I suggested London Southend earlier in this thread. If people are traveling via London airports, then I think this could be the cheapest and easiest option as there is a direct train route from London Liverpool street to this airport.

Also there're FlyBe and Aurigny flying from London Gatwick (the cheapest starting point for both of the companies; Aurigny is expensive to go to Jersey but competitive in case of Guernsey), which is cheaper to get to/from, and occasionally they have better fly off times (for me at least :))

So if my math is right, you'll spend ~90 euro for London-Jersey-London tickets, ~100 euro for Cork-Heathrow-Cork, and another ~30 euro for London Liverpool Street-London Southend-London Liverpool Street, which results in 220 euro + something to get from Heathrow to/from London Liverpool Street (let's say another 15 euro) = 235 euro.

At the same time, you can fly Dublin-Jersey-Dublin for 200 euro (July 31-August 4) via Aer Lingus, or for 240 euro (August 1-August 3) via British Airways (with 1 additional stop). I have no idea how expensive it is to get from Cork to Dublin, but I think it'll relieve you from all the rush to get from the plane to the bus and then to the train and then to another plane and then... well, you get the point :)

Agreed, someone else I know is coming from Dublin to Jersey direct with Aer Lingus, 90 euro each way. I have also heard that you lucky folk in Ireland still have the benefit of a state owned public transport system, with very competitive fares, so it shouldn't cost much to get to Dublin Airport from Cork?! That direct flight doesn't go every day though, but when it does it leaves at lunchtime and gets onto the island by 3pm or so, returns at 4pm I think, arriving into Dublin before 6pm.

Once you have landed in Jersey, you can then get the Condor ferry between the islands, for about £40 return.... So you could get to both concert venues.... and the tickets in the upper front balcony for the Guernsey concerts are only £18....

There are still several B&B rooms available on both islands for around the £40 per night price range....
