Post by Surpinto »

https://libera.org.uk/news/spring-concert-announced-2/

We have announced a spring concert at London’s iconic Southwark Cathedral. We are very much looking forward to our first visit to this wonderful place. We will be performing on 10th May 2025 at 7.30 pm. Ticket availability will be announced as soon as we have details.

Please Note – this is the Anglican Cathedral by London Bridge.

Good news 🙂

Hardly the widest cathedral ever.
The ticket battle will be fierce.
Just three seats across at the front (if retained), then five further back in the nave…

So the UK Spring concert will be held in London.
The last time it occured was May 2008, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

According to this site, the cathedral's nave capacity should be up to 700 seats in theatre mode.
That's quite reassuring, I was afraid it might be less than half that.
However, I find it hard to reach that number just by looking at the photo

Edit : understood. There are seats on the sides of the cathedral, meaning on the other side of the large pillars!
Those seats will be classified in an 'obstructed view' category I guess.

Good to learn that we have the long awaited announcement for the Spring concert now, but I'm not so happy with London as the location just a few months after my last expensive stay there during Christmas season. My first check of accomodations and flights reveal that prices seem to be relatively high already. I might wait and hope for UK concert options during Summer this time, as much as I would love to attend :?

Edit: Never mind, I will attend

Booked hotel (Premier Inn Southwark (Bankside)), train and Oliver! for the Sunday. Don't fancy a seat at the wrong side of those pillars

Ah, of course, I should have seen it coming !

Won't make it to this concert. It's the same day as my goddaughter / niece's 10 years old birthday.
Noooow there better be Summer concerts or I won't survive the Libera concert deprivation until next Christmas :( :( :(

Wouldn't London be a perfect place for a niece/goddaughter's birthday? with the magic of the City, royalty, but also Harry Potter, and the cherry on the cake a Libera Concert!? Perfect combo 😆😆

Great news this concert! And it falls the week of my vacation! but finances are tricky... nothing sure I'll see later!

Fierce is right. It's not hard to imagine the families reserving nearly half the center aisle before tickets even go on sale.

Do you think they will provide screens for those seated in the aisles ? I don't remember them needing that since 2016 or 2017...

Not so surprised with the London venue. These last years it seems like they got an easier time getting full attendance or so when in London.

I second you.
If only one of these were to be chosen, my preference would be Dream You Of.
Not an easy one to perform live, it requires perfect blending of the lower voices, and Morgan's voice would need to have remained unchanged since the Christmas concert, nearly 6 months ago, which is a long time.

Attention: From 2 April 2025 on travelers from the European Union will need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to be able to enter the UK. ETA registration will be possible from 5 March 2025 on. It costs 10 GBP to apply, approval might take up to 72 hours.

That would be amazing! My thoughts regarding "Resurrectio" is that it would be far too demanding and complicated to do live. But any of those would be great!

Wish I could be there!

Just from the EU or from other countries as well? It looks like all countries from which visas are not required to enter the UK (such as the US) require this new ETA document. How annoying!

This is good to know as this is something that has only been implemented in 2025. Thanks for the information!

'ETA' is similar to the 'ESTA' that the US has required from tourists for years.
'ETA' is the UK's version of it.
The EU is also expected to introduce its own system 'ETIAS' later in 2025.
