Tenor Girl

Post by Libera73 »

Hey everyone.
I would really love to join a choir (they all have auditions coming up soon), but i've noticed that they only want tenor males, and alto/soprano girls. some don't mind. but i'm a girl and i can only sing low, i don't know if i should audition or not, i don't know if i'm any good. My mum says i'm good (but of course she'd say that), but its not too often that you see a tenor female in a choir. i don't know if they'll let me in. i cant handle the embarrasment.. :?:

If only for the experience and getting the comment from the choir director I say you should go. Don't be embarassed, you have your own unique voice and you want to use it for singing - that's wonderful. Let the choir director decide if they think you would do well in the choir but don't let your thoughts on what might happen keep you from following your dream.

It used to be controversial for male singers to sing really high and now countertenors (male sopranos/altos) are hugely succesful. So you never know on which side the coin might land.

Oh, and please keep us updated! :)

I would say go for it! I know a girl who sung tennor at her old school, and it actually made her even more popular, because she was different from everyone else! I sing Soprano 1/Contralto Soprano, and believe it or not I have gotten made fun of for having a high voice, people here tend to think lower voices are cool! I would say audition, because the worst thing that can happen is you don't make it, but I'm sure you will! Good luck if you do decide to! :D

I agree with Nicki. I used to sing tenor in school choir mostly because the tenor boys wouldn't sing. Now I sing Alto 2, which may be what they'll have you sing.

Definitely go for it! It'll be a good experience, and it's a lot of fun! :D

Some choirs will have girls singing tennor, and at my school my friend, who is a guy, sings alto with us! It all depends on where someone is most comfortable, and honestly I think it's really neat when girls sing tennor/boys sing alto or soprano! :D
