One Small Voice - Songs Of Praise - 16 March 2025
Libera will be singing One Small Voice on Songs of Praise on Sunday, 16 March, on the BBC, at 13:15 am UK time
This will be a new recording, filmed at the Bishop Edward King Chapel of Ripon College Cuddesdon, near Oxford.

Il will be the second performance in a row from Libera in Songs of Praise, following the broadcast of an hymn the week before.

Libera can "Make Songs of Praise Great Again".
Anyways, I'm happy to see this. I wonder if there has been any change in the people in charge of programming?
I would've preferred if it was one of the songs that didn't already have a music video.

It’s easy to imagine that, given the trip all the way to Oxford, the journey was well worth it to record more that one song. Maybe more than two ?
Initially, I was surprised that the two songs were to be released in consecutive weeks rather than holding back the second for a later broadcast.
However, it turns out that the chapel used for the filming is integral to the overall theme of both episodes, which were entirely shot at Ripon College Cuddesdon.
The text on the BBC page suggests that only two episodes were filmed there, so a third song aired during a consecutive third week seems unlikely. But you never know, right?

Very nice! Most likely they'll stick with Julian as soloist too, though of course anything is possible.

The only reason for a change might be because Julian isn't so small anymore. However, it was his breakout performance and I hope he got to do it for TV.Surpinto wrote: 3 weeks ago Very nice! Hopefully, the last two Libera songs featuring on the program will be more exciting and more "Liberaesque". The other two are certainly good, but they aren't the type of music that sets Libera apart from all the other groups.

Agreed. I’d like them to perform any two from Beati Quorum, Be Still My Soul, Sanctus, Sempiterna, and Sancte.

funnily enough, the Songs Of Praise and Libera accounts have already shared the full video on Instagram this Friday, even before SOP airs on Sunday.

I think the choice of music will depend quite a lot on whether all the programmes they recorded for are due to be broadcast during Lent. If so I think Beati would be too upbeat and not really in keeping with Lenten themes. But the others would all be suitable.Mercurial909 wrote: 3 weeks agofugalharmony wrote: 3 weeks ago Hopefully, the last two Libera songs featuring on the program will be more exciting and more "Liberaesque". Beautiful job done by the boys on the song. It's less polished than the recording but to me that's not a bad thing. You can hear all the different voice parts and the swell of sound they can generate together. Julian's voie sounds as though it's developed a bit from the album recording, there's a greater richness I think though he still maintains his distinctive tone and air of innocent conviction. Morgan sounded good on the lower descants, that does suggest his voice is starting to drop.

Well said, I definitely agree! This SoP version gives me concert vibes, which I like very much!Cat-a-tonic wrote: 2 weeks ago Beautiful job done by the boys on the song. Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!

Yes! Definitely less like a studio recording and more like a live concert. That being said, I'm wondering if they were forced into that because this would be the only exposure the general SOP audience would have of them and I would assume Sam would want them to sound as polished as possible. Obviously they sounded perfectly fine on this, I'm just curious about the circumstances.theriverflowson wrote: 2 weeks agoWell said, I definitely agree! Yes, exactly. That was my feeling watching and listening to it.theriverflowson wrote: 2 weeks agoWell said, I definitely agree! Excellent stuff. If I had one (small) observation it would be that they seemed to be a little stern; almost too focused. A few smiles for the TV audience would help to sell them a little better but what do I know.
